I Think We Misread the Story of Ruth

I think we misread the story of Ruth.  It was not Ruth who waited for her Boaz, it was Boaz who waited for his Ruth.  He was a single man at home with his people being a man of integrity, respect, and reputation.  He loved and served God and People.  He was known by the elders and was a guardian/redeemer for his area. He was waiting, doing the work God had given him to do.

While he was doing that, Ruth was in the world living by the flesh.  Her first marriage was to a man who's name literally meant 'sickly,' and this is back when names meant something.  If she is as beautiful as they say, he must have been charming or rich to land her.  While she didn't know any better, she soon learned because of her time with Naomi, her mother in law.

It wasn't until she submitted, not to her fleshly mother, but her spiritual one and followed Naomi's instructions that she even met Boaz.  He was kind, protective, could provide for himself and his workers. Then, again submitting to her spiritual mother, she literally threw herself, all dolled up, at the feet of Boaz.  But being a man of integrity and reputation he went and followed the proper channels to redeem her and marry her.

Ruth was blessed with Boaz because she turned from the world, submitted herself and was faithful to her righteous leadership, and was diligent and hardworking. Ruth came back with Naomi at the start of the barley harvest and threw herself at his feet at the end of wheat harvest, which is about two months total.

Boaz was an older man who was even surprised Ruth gave him a chance with the younger, read better looking, men around.    He had waited his whole life for God to provide him a woman to marry.  It took Naomi to see his worth and she instructed Ruth to pursue this man.  Ruth put herself in his path, she hung around to see his character, and she even took the first step in pursuing a relationship with him.

Ladies, stop looking in the world for men.  You will only find 'sickly' ones.  Find men of integrity, kindness, honor, and Godliness and pursue them.  They will be busy working, but they will notice and, just like Boaz, do everything in their power to make it work, and more importantly, they will respect your honor, your value, and, just like Ruth and Boaz, the legacy will be great.
